Kundura, Jan 21: Scores of farmers under this block in Koraput district are in distress as more than 10,000 quintal of paddy was seen lying in a panchayat level procurement centre at Digapur.
Reports said many farmers sold their produce in the mandi in December last year. However, some farmers couldn’t bring their crop to the centre due to delay in harvest. These left out farmers, at present, have brought several sacks of paddy to the mandi in hope of selling them to the government.
But, neither the local administration nor any procuring agency has shown interest in lifting the paddy consignment. Contacted, Tarini Bisoi, the managing director of cooperation department, said the paddy would be procured only after they receive a directive from the government.
On the other hand, some farmers have been meeting Bisoi for the past few days to get their pending bonus money, but in vain, they alleged.
