Bhubaneswar: After a two-month-long uncertainty and legal battle, the state government Wednesday completed counselling for relocation of 124 students of Sardar Rajas Medical College and Hospital of Kalahandi district.
“The provisional counselling for readmission of 124 students of Sardar Rajas Medical College has been completed Wednesday and the medicos have been advised to report to the respective institutions between December 24 and December 30,” additional director of medical education and training (DMET) Umakant Satpathy said.
The 124 students have been shifted to two government- medical colleges and three private medical colleges, Satpathy said.
“Tomorrow we will inform the government about admission of the students and also inform the High Court about it,” he stated.
According to sources, the counselling for admission to MKCG Medical College, Hi-Tech Medical College was conducted Tuesday while the counselling for admission to VIMSAR of Burla, KIMS and SUM medical colleges conducted Wednesday.
Out of 124 medicos of Sardar Rajas, the state government has relocated 109 (who were admitted on the basis of all-India ranks) to government colleges and 15 (who took admission against management quota) were shifted to three private colleges. The 109 students were distributed between MKCG (55) and VIMSAR (54) colleges, sources added.
The Orissa High Court had directed the state government to complete the relocation process of 124 students of Bhawanipatna-based medical college to government and private medical institutes by December 23 and file a compliance report before the court December 24.
Earlier, five students of the three medical colleges (VIMSAR, MKCG & Hi Tech) had filed a misc case in the High Court seeking a stay on the counselling and admission of Sardar Rajas students in other government colleges of the state.
The case has been filed on the basis of recommendation of the Supreme Court that had advised them to approach the High Court in the issue.
The hearing of the case at the Supreme Court has been postponed to January 5. The court had advised the applicants to file a petition in the High Court. Accordingly, the Supreme Court’s interim order is still in force, said petitioners’ counsel Ashok Mohapatra.
