Sundargarh: At least 30 labourers were injured after a portion of an under-construction bridge caved in near Kunjapani under K Balang police limits in Sundargarh districts Sunday.
Among the injured, the condition of six is stated to be critical. Nearly 30 labourers were working at the site when the mishap occurred in the afternoon. According to sources, a portion of the 50-metre long and 20-ft high structure caved in.
Police rushed to the mishap site and called the ambulance service which shifted the injured to the Bonai sub-division hospital. Those critically injured have been shifted to a hospital in Rourkela.
The bridge was being built by the National Bridge Construction Company (NBCC) at a cost of `1.86 crore on
the road connecting Jamudihi to Kunjapani. A Bihar based consultancy firm had been assigned to take up the construction work.
The mishap occurred between 12pm and 1 pm when the labourers were busy laying concrete mortar on the roof of the bridge when they slipped 25-ft down after a slab caved in.
