Ganjam: In a shocking incident, a four-year-old boy was allegedly poisoned to death by a woman following a minor fight with the former’s mother at Badachakata village under Rambha police limits in this block and district, police said.
The woman killed the infant by allegedly giving him poison laced water to avenge the insult in the hands of the deceased’s mother. The deceased was identified as the son of Tanu and Nila Palai in the village. Nila works in Surat.
The incident spread shockwaves in the area as residents plunged into mourning on hearing about the kid’s death. On being informed, Rambha police rushed to the spot and detained the woman in this connection. The deceased’s family has lodged a complaint in the police station.
Rambha IIC Namita Nayak said the woman had a fight with Tanu over some issues Sunday morning which was later resolved by the intervention of the villagers.
Later, the woman to avenge the insult called the boy to her home and gave him water-laced with poison to drink Sunday evening.
The boy came back home at about 8.30 pm and vomited profusely. When questioned, by his mother the boy said he was given water by the woman. Family members rushed him to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur at night where he succumbed during treatment.
Nayak said the actual reason behind the boy’s death could be ascertained only after the availability of the post-mortem report. PNN
