Bhubaneswar, July 11: The dengue menace in the state is assuming alarming proportions with the number of positive cases reaching more than 650 till Monday.
Sources from the health department said a total of 654 people were tested positive for the vector-borne disease so far while 128 persons are being treated at several hospitals.
The outbreak of the disease has also triggered panic in several parts of the state.
The deadly viral fever which is spreading across the state, particularly in Keonjhar and Cuttack districts, has already claimed two lives so far.
Taking note of it, health minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak Monday reviewed the situation and preparation for making special provision for treatment of patients in several hospitals of the state.
“We have made special wards in all three government colleges and hospitals to treat the people afflicted with the disease. Besides, several teams of doctors have been formed to deal with the situation,” said Nayak.
He said a taskforce has been constituted to monitor the situation in the state.
Notably, the minister had earlier informed that the state government has taken measures for free treatment of the patients in affected areas.
