‘7000-yr-old civilization flourished in Oupada’

Oupada: Historians and archaeologists have asserted that some regions in Oupada block situated at the foothills of Paschima Devagiri have traces of an ancient civilization dating back to 7000 years.

This was revealed by historians and archaeologists at a national level seminar at Oupada Mahavidyalaya. Dr Ajay Kumar Nayak, archaeologist Dr Anam Behera and Professor Santosh Kumar Mallick spoke at length about the historical and archeological evidence that they found about the remains of the ancient civilization.

Dr Atul Kumar Pradhan, lecturer of history in Oupada Mahavidyalaya, observed, “Ancient idols, images and household articles used by people and archaeological remains were found at various places in Oupada. On the basis of laboratory examination, it can be ascertained that an ancient civilization had flourished in the region.”

The historians exuded confidence, saying this civilization will find place in the pages of world history after traces of ancient civilization were excavated and found at Barkholi, Pratapur, Matigada in Talakia panchayat, Gadasahi in Gadasahi panchayat, and some places in Badapokhari and Champagada panchayats.

Fifteen out of 21 nominated research papers were discussed at the seminar. Researchers and history students from various parts of the state attended the event.     PNN
