Bolangir: Residents of Manigaon village near Titilagarh in this district woke up Sunday to receive a newborn and a dead man – a son and father.
They hadn’t seen each other as they arrived in and left this world at Bolangir district headquarters hospital (DHH) here almost together Saturday.
According to sources, Babuli Bharasagar (25) had admitted his wife Barsha Bharasagar (23) to the Bolangir DHH after she experienced labour pain Saturday morning. Accompanying them were Babuli’s elderly mother Mukta Bharasagar.
After settling his wife in the labour room, Babuli went out to do the necessary paper work in the hospital’s outdoor space. All of a sudden, he felt uneasy and fainted in the hospital outdoor. With no one to take care of him, he lay there for some time.
Meanwhile, as Babuli did not return to the side of his wife and elderly mother who were waiting for him in the labour ward, his mother went in search of him only to find him lying on the floor — dead.
The elderly mother of the deceased was caught between two calls – one, to attend to the son’s state; two, to attend to her daughter-in-law who delivered a baby in the labour room. She was seen weeping inconsolably near the body with no other family member around for help.
A doctor who checked his pulse later declared him dead. While the exact reason of his death was yet to be known, he is suspected to have died of heart attack.
Wife Barsha, who later delivered a baby boy, remained unaware of her husband’s death as medical authorities feared she might not be able to bear the loss of her husband.
The hospital attendants contacted Babuli’s relatives over phone and broke the news. Later, the body was taken for autopsy.
