Actor Sidhant Gupta, who is on cloud nine after he managed to bag a role in Sanjay Dutt’s comeback film Bhoomi, had first thought of becoming a pilot
Sidhant Gupta who has played the character of Kunj in the tele serial ‘Tashan-E-Ishq’ is hogging the limelight these days and is about to prove his mettle in the Sanjay Dutt comeback film Bhoomi. The movie is set to hit theatres September 22. Sidhant spoke to Orissa POST about his new venture and why he was lucky to work with Sanju baba in his first film.
As the date for the movie’s release is drawing close, OP asked Sidhant what his feelings were. He said he shared the same feelings as his students usually have at the time of the announcement of annual results.
Asked how he managed to bag a role in the movie Bhoomi, the actor replied: “One day I got a call from director Omung Kumar and he called me to his office. After that I went for a look test with Aditi Rao Hydari and was finalised for the role,” says Sidhant.
“I can’t describe how I felt when Omung Kumar finalised me for the role and that too opposite Sanjay Dutt. For me it was like a dream come true,” added the actor.
Sidhant was born and brought up in Jammu and has actively participated in extracurricular activities since his college days.
He has represented J&K in national level under-14 cricket, under-17 swimming and under-19 basketball. Later he went to Delhi for ground studies for Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL).
Sidhant is an actor who has not only represented Jammu and Kashmir in three sports, but also trained to become a pilot. “I belong to Jammu and have represented J&K in national level under-14 cricket, under-17 swimming and under-19 basketball. It’s funny that though I tried my hands at three sports, I pursued none. I think I was destined to become an actor,” said Sidhant.
Like a majority of Indian parents, Sidhant’s parents too were not keen when they got to know that their son wanted to become an actor. He really had to toil hard and had to convince his parents about his dreams and passions.
“It’s not that I could convince my parents overnight, it took a lot of time as I really had to convince them that I would really try hard to make it big in the glamour world. After a lot of hardship, finally the day came when they were convinced and today they are happy to see me sharing screen with Sanjay Dutt,” quipped the actor.
Earlier, Sidhant has worked in commercials and has done modelling for Wills India Fashion Week 2009, Delhi Fashion Week 2009, Cover shoot for India Today, Levis and Lawrence and Mayo. In 2007, he bagged the India’s Super Model 2007 title by TEF. The actor also won the Zee Rishtey Awards in 2015; he bagged the award for Favourite Nayi Jodi with Jasmin Bhasin.
Talking about his role in the movie, Sidhant said: “The film is basically a revenge drama, where I am playing the character of a doctor who is happy and has a romantic angle with Aditi Rao Hydari. It was really a fascinating experience and I feel blessed to have worked with so many good actors.”
The actor doesn’t have any role model. He believes in moments of inspiration and there are a number of moments that inspired him. Recalling his shooting experiences, Sidhant said: “It was really a proud moment for me when I received compliments from a person like Sanjay Dutt. When it comes from somebody of his stature, it really counts. It means everything to you at that point of time and it really means a lot to me.”
