Jamankira: Days after a tusker died in Jharsuguda district while under treatment, another tusker was found dead in a pit near Tansara village under Badrama range of this block in Sambalpur district.
Forest officials suspect the jumbo came to the pit to quench his thirst and fallen into the water after losing his balance. “The exact reason for the death is to be ascertained. We are waiting for the autopsy report to establish the cause,” informed Badarama forest officer Niladreenath Sahoo.
Villagers feel the tusker might have been killed as the man-elephant conflict happens here and the forest department does little in this respect. Villagers Wednesday spotted the carcass of the tusker aged about 20 in the pit.
Forest officer Sahoo, ranger Ranjan Jit, forest guards and bit house employees reached the spot and started an investigation.
