Bhubaneswar: The All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) has launched an indefinite nationwide strike from Friday 6 AM after the Central Government failed to address its long pending demands.
The Odisha Truck Owners’ Association has extended its support to the nationwide indefinite strike call given by AIMTC.
The secretary of the Odisha Truck Owners’ Association, Rabi Satpathy informed that all the trucks are off the road since 6 AM as OTOA extended its support to the bandh call as the demands are genuine.
Vice-president of Bhubaneswar Goods Transport Association (BGTA), Sangram Das said the decision of the strike was taken as the talks between the government and the AIMTUC over their demands failed.
The demands included reduction in diesel prices, inclusion of petrol under GST ambit, closure of toll plazas across the national highways, reduction of insurance premium, collection of TDS and streamlining of port congestion and several others.
Sources said around 90 lakh trucks have remained off roads across the country.
