Bhubaneswar: Budding Orissa athlete Anshika Routray, who is the daughter of Olympian Anuradha Biswal, won gold in the girls’ U-14 shot put event at the CBSE Cluster Zonal Athletics Meet, which concluded Thursday in Sambalpur. The meet had started October 3.
Anshika threw 10.46m to win the yellow metal. In the process she set a new meet record. Her teammate Arpita Sahu bagged silver with a throw of 9.34m while Rajashree Sinha of West Bengal won bronze with a throw of 8.35m.
MFC enter semis
Mothers Football Club (MFC) stormed into the semifinals of the Gati Krushna Memorial B-Division Football League thrashing SGO Nayapalli 4-0 here, Thursday. Sidhanta Das (fifth), Sumit Patel (15th), Biswa Pattanaik (17th) and Piyus Nanda (62nd) scored for the winners.

In the women’s singles Ananya Basak, Nikita Patnaik, Yoshita Jamula, Gitanjali Heyal and Gayatri Mitra won their respective matches to enter the round of eight.
In the junior boys’ event, top seed Saheel Bhuyan, Abinash Tripathy, Om Prakash Rao, Mohit Behuray, SR Pati and Saswat Bal made it to the last eight stage.
Top seed Sweta Padma Dalai, Shruti Mishra, Bhabya Bharadwaj, Sushree Patnaik, Sikriti Bhagat, Sania Mishra, Baisakhi Bal and Nansinin Biswal entered the quarterfinals in the sub-junior girls’ event.
