Cuttack, Nov 15: Sishu Bhawan, a children’s hospital in Cuttack, which was in the news in 2015, has undergone an artistic makeover by the artists from Bakul Foundation. The newly decorated ward at the hospital was inaugurated by health minister Pradeep Kumar Amat here Tuesday.
Artist Satyabhama Majhi, along with 30 other artists, was engaged in designing ‘medical-ward II’ of the hospital for the past two months.
Speaking about the reason for coming up with such an initiative, Sujit Mohapatra, founder of Bakul Foundation, said, “We got an invitation from health secretary Arti Ahuja ?to turn Sishu Bhawan into a bright and beautiful place.”
This ward, which was once Governor’s residence, is now a place where history meets contemporary art.
The paintings have various layers on each wall. With beautiful artworks, children’s rhymes have also been scribed on the walls. Artists have also used paper craft to get children’s attention.
“The artists have used various elements for their artworks. Dice and Rubik’s Cube are depicted on the walls that have 3D effects. Other illusions have also been used to beautify the work. Inspiration has also come from things found in the hospital itself”, said Sujit.
When asked if the Foundation was planning to decorate other wards of the hospital, he said, “Let us first hope our initiative is appreciated first. At present, we have not planned anything, but we may include more wards and other hospitals also in our plan.”
