Cuttack: The enforcement directorate (ED) Monday registered cases against sports administrator and former secretary of Orissa Olympic Association (OOA), Ashirbad Behera, his son and son-in-law.
While a CBI inquiry is underway into fudging of age of players in OCA, the cases by ED has spelt further trouble for Behera. The ED will enquire about Behera’s properties and business activities. The ED is likely to issue notices to Behera and others for questioning.
Notably, the OOA had allegedly encroached upon 634 decimals of land on the premises of Barabati stadium. Subsequently, the association had leased out the land to a private party. Barabati Palace and other business establishments were set up on the land.
Behera’s son Sanjay and his son-in-law were partners of a private firm M/s INCON Associates which was roped in by OOA for construction of Barabati Palace. The Supreme Court had annulled the agreements between the OOA and M/s INCON Associates.
The apex court in its January 22, 2015 order had directed the accountant general (AG) to conduct audit of the illegal construction of Barabati Palace and 23 shops on the encroached land. In the audit report, AG pointed out irregularities in the financial deal. Later, the SC ordered the CBI and ED to inquire into the irregularities.
