Cuttack, May 4: The sub-divisional judicial magistrate court here Wednesday turned down the bail applications of two associates of Dhalasamanta brothers — Pramod Patra alias Bhuan and Sangram Keshari Routray.
The two are close associates of the siblings and were allegedly involved in many criminal activities, according to sources.
Police had raided Bhuan’s Shankarpur residence and recovered `76.20 lakh from his house and arrested him. Bhuan used to extort money, police said. A case was registered against him in this regard.
Routray was allegedly involved in the illegal arms business that was allegedly run by the Dhalasamanta brothers. Police conducted a raid and arrested Routray from his residence at Talasahi in Jobra area. A Mauser and four rounds of bullets were seized from him. A case was registered against him at Chauliaganj police station.
In a related development, Sushant Dhalasamanta was appeared before SDJM court here Wednesday. He was brought to the court under tight security from Jharpada jail. His brother Sushil, who is lodged in Balasore jail, appeared in court through video conferencing.
Other associates of the siblings appeared in court through video conferencing from Choudwar jail.
The SDJM has extended their custody, sources said.
