Bhubaneswar: Balasore and KISS emerged champions in the men’s and the women’s categories of the State Senior Kho-Kho Championships, which concluded at Puri, Wednesday.
In the men’s category Balasore defeated KISS to take the top honours, while in the women’s category KISS beat Jagatsinghpur to clinch the title.
Jagatsinghpur and Puri finished third in the men and women’s segments. In the men’s segment Sipun Mukhi of Balasore was adjudged the best runner and Lipun Mukhi bagged the best all-rounder award. Sukhlal Hembram of KISS won the best chaser award.
In the women’s section, Sibani Gamango of KISS won the best runner award. Sasmita Nathasharma and Madhusmita Ojha of Jagatsinghapur bagged the best all-rounder and choker awards respectively.
Golf lessons
The inaugural India Learn Golf Week (ILGW), first of its kind initiative to grow and spread the game saw girls from KISS institute get their first lessons of the game under the globally acclaimed Professional Golfers Association (PGA) of American curriculum.
The week-long programme which was spread across 15 cities and 26 participating clubs drew nationwide participation with the highest participation in Pune, Panchkula and Jaipur. Kolkata and Lucknow also saw people come out in numbers in spite of the festival period to play golf.
Devang Gandhi, president of Golf Industry Association of India thanked everyone for making the event a big success. “I would personally like to thank all the participating clubs for showing huge amount of enthusiasm and to all the people who came out in big numbers to support the initiative and participate in the sport of Golf,” he said.
