Bhubaneswar, May 24: The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) plans to open yoga training centres at its four parks in association with local resident’s welfare associations (RWAs) to help it bond with citizens seeking better amenities from the building regulator.
The yoga centres are proposed to be set up at Kalinga Nagar’s K8 park, Buddha Nagar park, Netaji Park and Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Park.
The move is part of efforts to improve services with the available funds.
“We have been toying with the idea of establishing yoga centres at a few existing parks that do not require a lot of funds and are easy to do with the partnership of trained persons,” BDA chief horticulturist Ashok N Dhar said.
The building regulator also proposes to set up four new gymnasiums in the near future, Dhar said. Currently, one gym is already developed by BDA at IG Park on Sachivalaya Marg for which equipment would be procured within a month.
BDA manages 60 parks at present for which it spends around Rs 1 crore annually every year towards maintenance and security.
A source said BDA has received a lot of proposals for developing more parks in residential areas and introducing yoga centres for the benefit of the people, particularly senior citizens.
BDA should improve amenities at parks with measures such as introduction of beverage and newspaper kiosks and gyms for users, said A retired doctor living in Sahid Nagar Sashibhusan Mohapatra. “The proposed yoga centres would be of great benefit for people especially if expert trainers are roped in by BDA,” he said.
