Thiruvananthapuram: Bhuvneshwar Kumar has witnessed Jasprit Bumrah evolve into a potent weapon for India and said that the Gujarat bowler has worked a lot on his action, which is paying dividends.
Asked what is the secret of Bumrah’s success, Bhuvi replied, “Bumrah has a different action, which creates problems for the batsmen. He has improved a lot of things with his action. He had these yorkers and slower ones earlier as well but he has improved a lot.”
Bhuvi said that he has confidence in Bumrah that he can bowl well at the death. “When you bowl with Bumrah, you have confidence that if you need to save runs later (at the death), if you bowl well, he will also do it with me.”
India’s new ball pair also communicate a lot and discuss strategies. “Another good thing is that when the match begins, we talk to each other about the track, what strategy we can make. It’s of great help for both the bowlers,” he added.
On the other hand, New Zealand all-rounder Mitchell Santner said fellow spinner Ish Sodhi has reaped the benefits of bowling a superb length in the current T20 series against India.
“Lengths have been the key thing. Ish bowled a superb length, pulled it back and made it hard for the Indian batsmen to hit. I tried to do something pretty similar. We have to change our lengths accordingly,” said Santner on the eve of the third T20.
On New Zealand coming up short in crucial matches, like the World Cup final against Australia in 2015 and in the recent ODI series, he said, “We like to treat this is like another game. It is better than being two-nil down. We are excited about it.”
