Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to make pension distribution systematic by linking the Aadhaar and bank accounts of beneficiaries.
Officials said the corporation will start a special drive from December 1 to 30 for this. A help desk will also be set up at the corporation office to facilitate linking. BMC officials confirmed that the help desk will have facilities for opening bank accounts and registering Aadhaar cards.
“The linking of Aadhaar and bank accounts will make pension distribution systematic and monitoring easier. In fact, depositing the pension amount in the bank accounts of beneficiaries will help us sort out complaints easily,” said a top official of BMC.
At present the civic body is giving pension to around 20,000 beneficiaries. Officials believe that linking Aadhaar and bank accounts will help to weed out fake beneficiaries.
“The linking will ensure that all bonafide beneficiaries get pension on time. We are also taking special efforts to ensure that all beneficiaries are getting pensions,” said officials.
Direct payment of pension into the bank accounts of pensioners will also help them get pension without visiting BMC office. Everyday hundreds visit BMC offices for various purposes and so the corporation has plans to widen its online presence.
“We are hoping to completely digitise in a year. So the civic body of the future smart city will use paper only minimally. Digitalisation will ensure better performance and the public can also get their things done without coming to our offices,” said a top BDA official.
