Bhubaneswar, Nov 28: To provide batter cardiac care facility to the people of western Orissa, the state government Saturday gave in-principle approval to a proposal to set up a super-specialty cardiac care hospital in Jharsuguda on public-private partnership (PPP) mode.
The proposal for a state-of-the-art hospital, envisaged to be equipped with advanced cardiac care facilities and departments with 50 beds, was approved by the empowered committee on infrastructure (ECI) headed by Chief Secretary GC Pati. The hospital will also have two operation theatres.
The estimated cost of the project is around Rs 40 crore, which will be jointly provided by the state government and Mahanadi Coalfield Limited (MCL). MCL will fund infrastructure development and procurement of equipment for the hospital, which will be operated and managed by private entities, sources said.
The government, which has already identified 6.5 acres for the hospital, will undertake the responsibility of infrastructure development like construction of building and provisioning of equipment, the sources added.
Pati advised officials of the health and family welfare department to develop a human organ bank in the hospital in future. Taking stock of the progress of different PPP projects, Pati directed the administrative departments concerned to own the project and follow up its implementation regularly.
The panel also reviewed the progress of other projects, including development of storage and warehouses for rice under the state PEG scheme at 15 locations; city bus service in the Berhampur-Gopalpur-Chhatrapur-Hinjilicut urban cluster; two affordable housing projects under the ‘Housing for All’ policy in urban areas; four-lane work of Sambalpur-Rourkela section of state highway No. 10; 23 road projects; and three fly-over projects.
