Bhubaneswar: An 18-day-long residential pre-recruitment coaching on Orissa Teacher’s Eligibility Test (OTET) for PwDs started at Vocational Rehabilitation Centre For Handicapped (VRCH) here Thursday.
The coaching programme will continue till September 24 and it is jointly organised by NCSCDA, Bhubaneswar, and social security and empowerment of persons with disability (SSEPD) department. Around 32 persons with disabilities (PwDs) have been opted for the training programme, of which 24 are male. Among them, 20 are persons with visual impairments, 11 with locomotor disabilities and one with hearing impairment. The trainees will be provided coaching, accommodation on the campus, food, learning materials and Braille slate to the visually impaired free of charge.
The pre-recruitment coaching was formally inaugurated Thursday by Niten Chandra, Principal Secretary, and Mansi Nimbhal, Director of SSEPD and Additional Commissioner, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation.
The principal secretary advised the OTET aspirants that the facilities extended by the government should be utilised in a fruitful manner.
The director stated that all-out efforts would be made to make this programme successful as the newly enacted Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act-2016 mandates reservation of 4 per cent for PwDs in government jobs. She added that these types of coaching classes are not only meant for OTET but also for other competitive exams like SSC, Railways, IBPS-banking etc.
