Bhadrak: Communication in the Bhadrak-Anandapur road was disrupted for hours Tuesday due to a road blockade following the death of a college girl in an accident.
Police said the students of the college blocked the Anandapur-Chandbali state highway at Bant following the mishap. The agitated students set fire to two trucks, the police said.
A truck ran over Priyanka Rout, a Plus III student from Kushbanti village under Bant police station at about 11 am. The girl died on the spot. The driver of the truck fled from the spot, the police said.
College students burnt the trucks and set fire to another vehicle parked on the road side near the Bant bazaar.
The students demanded compensation of `50 lakh for the family of the deceased girl, said Gyanaranjan Mishra, IIC Bant police station.
The students also demanded widening of the road and stop plying of heavy vehicles during college hours, police said.
Collector Laxminarayan Mishra, SP Dillip Das, sub-collector Narottam Behera and SDPO, Bhadrak rushed to the spot and assured the agitators of considering their demand after discussing with the higher-ups. Following this, the agitators relented. PNN
