Bhubaneswar: The state government Wednesday raised compensation amount for victims of violence and other mishaps.
As per new provisions, in case of death of a person in violence the family will get an ex-gratia of `2lakh.
Compensation for a rape or acid attack victim has been enhanced to `3lakh.
Besides, the compensation will be `2lakh in case of physical abuse of minor, `1lakh for rehabilitation of victim of human trafficking, `50,000 for sexual assault (excluding rape), permanent disability (more than 80 per cent) `2lakh, `1lakh for partial disability (40 per cent to 80 per cent), `2lakh for burn injuries greater than 25 per cent (excluding acid attack), `1.5lakh for loss of fertility, `50,000 for loss of foetus, `20,000 for harassment of child or sexual abuse for pornographic purposes and `10,000 for loss or injury causing severe mental agony to women and children in human trafficking case.
The Home department notification, published in the Orissa Gazette, states that the scheme will cover victims, and in case of death of victims his/her dependents or next of kin in the family, who has suffered the atrocity resulting from crime or by the crime.
Besides, the compensation will be paid to the victim who has not been compensated for the loss or injury under any other scheme of the Central or the state government or insurance company or any other institution.
Assistance under the scheme will be available in respect of each of the cases where the FIR is lodged. The victims or their dependents may also request the state or district legal services authority for compensation.
The district legal services authority in all districts will have the exclusive jurisdiction to deal with such applications and assistance received under the scheme in the district.
