Cuttack: Defending champions Radha Raman Club (RRC) and Sunshine Club registered contrasting victories in their respective FAO 1st Division League matches at the Barabati Stadium here, Wednesday.
RRC, who stunned the three-time FAO League champions Sunrise Club in the final last year, were far from impressive as they toiled hard, in spite of scoring an early goal, to beat Sports Hostel by the solitary goal.
Sunil Sardar struck the only goal of the match in the 13th minute. Both the sides created several good scoring opportunities but couldn’t convert those into goals. Sports Hostel, though, tried to make amends in the second period with an attacking display. However, they failed to break the RRC defensive barrier.
In other game, Sunshine were at their dominating best as three second half goals see them thrash State Bank of India (SBI) 4-0. Sunshine, in spite of having a better ball possession, were only 1-0 up at the break, which came through a 23rd-minute Biki Sethi strike.
They, however, came back strongly after the break and Biki was on target again soon after the restart. Madan Soren extended the lead to 3-0 in the 57th minute before Sk Rehan completed the rout nine minutes later.
