Former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has called it quits from his position in the Indian cricket team, Wednesday, after leading it for nearly a decade. Arguably the most successful captain of India’s cricket history, Dhoni’s decision came as a shock to many admirers. While some were left disheartened, others were quite pleased as he abdicated from the post at the helm of his career.
Many of Dhoni’s fans and admirers confessed their feelings about the captain cool’s decision to Arindam Ganguly of Orissa POST.
Hardcore Dhoni fan Deepti Sahoo felt that he could be a motivational speaker if he wants to. She said, “His struggles, in personal and professional life, speak for itself and it has made him a role model for many.” A human resource manager by profession, Deepti felt that the biopic on him came at a right time, which was a perfect attempt to pay the man tributes he deserves.
Ankita Singh was not happy when people compared Dhoni’s legacy to that of Sourav Ganguly’s. Both captains did the best they could and their contributions to Indian cricket were above par. However, Dhoni has an edge over the other when it came to the success rate, Ankita, a media-person, felt.
Cricket enthusiast Alok Lal was glad with Dhoni’s decision. “He gave opportunities to younger players like Rahane, Kohli and Jadeja, and helped them achieved their feats. His long hair during the beginning of his career was appreciated by then Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf.”
Dhoni fan Rupesh Kumar explained, “MS took the decision at the right time and proved, yet again, that his motives are not selfish. He could have waited till the next match where he will finish 200th match as a captain. He has a lot of batting left in him.”
Rishabh compared former skipper to living legends like Michael Phelps and Sachin Tendulkar. “He has prepared Virat Kohli well, who may take the charge to lead the team in three formats of the game: T20, ODI and test.
Banashree Pradhan does not adore cricket like many do, but watches every crucial match. Seeing the occasion, she attempted to send MS Dhoni her message: “Every cricket fan will remember you for the contributions and sacrifices you made for the team. You gave us many unforgettable moments like the winning shot of 2011 World Cup. Thank you for everything.”
