Bhubaneswar: East Coast Railway (ECoR) has suspended four of its employees and directed the Commission of Railway Safety (CRS) to probe Thursday’s railway accident at Cuttack.
According to officials, the ECoR has suspended loco pilot Sanatan Das, assistant loco pilot Jyoti Ranjan Das, loco inspector Upendra Kumar Behera and guard PC Sethy.
Top railway officials informed this newspaper that the railway is looking into all angles of the incident and the CRS, an independent body of department of civil aviation, will investigate from Monday.
“Commissioner of Railway Safety, S Nayak (South Eastern Circle, Kolkata) will hold a statutory inquiry into the accident of Bhubaneswar-Bhadrak Passenger. The inquiry will commence at 10am Monday at Officers Rest House, ECoR, near Cuttack Railway Station and will continue till 1:30pm. The inquiry will resume at 3:30pm till its completion at Rail Sadan, Chandrasekharpur, Bhubaneswar,” said a top railway official.
The railways has also decided to issue public notice for collecting information from all the stakeholders including the public regarding the accident.
Anyone having information about the incident can share it with commission or the railway and their confidentiality will be maintained. One may also write to CRS, South Eastern Circle, New Koilaghat Building, 14 Strand Road (12th Floor), Kolkata-1.
