Cuttack: The Orissa High Court Thursday granted conditional bail to the regional transport officer (RTO) of Balasore district, Amaresh Kumar Patra, in connection with a disproportionate assets case.
Justice JP Das granted the bail to Patra on conditions that he would cooperate in the ongoing investigation and would not intimidate the witnesses of the case.
Patra was arrested by the sleuths of Cuttack vigilance division for amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. A case was registered against him at the vigilance police station here.
Following rejection of his bail petition by a special vigilance court here, Patra had moved the HC. During the hearing, the vigilance had submitted the case diary in the HC as per the direction of the court.
Acting on a complaint, the vigilance October 25 last year had conducted simultaneous raids at nine places including his residences and office. The sleuths had detected moveable and immovable assets worth `1,27,78,792 in possession of Patra. The vigilance had claimed that Patra was possessing assets 116 per cent more than that of his legal sources of income.
