Bhubaneswar: Contrary to allegations, Koraput district administration in its preliminary inquiry report Saturday said the reported delivery of a baby girl by a tribal woman near a drain at Koraput headquarters hospital was ‘spontaneous’ and happened due to “precipitated labour”.
Koraput additional district magistrate, in his report Saturday said the tribal woman had come to hospital December 14 evening as an attendant to her husband in Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital (SLNMCH) and stayed at the hospital. She delivered the baby the next morning when she had gone to attend nature’s call, the ADM?added.
The expected date of delivery was December 26, 2017, the inquiry report stated.
“The woman had gone outside the hospital to attend nature’s call and delivered the baby suddenly during open defecation,” said the ADM report which the district collector forwarded to the health department secretary.
The report further states that after learning about the delivery, the hospital staff rushed to the spot with necessary life saving drugs/equipment. The umbilical cord was cut by one of the staff nurses on the spot and then the baby was separated and handed over to the relatives.
Now, both the mother and child are in stable condition and doing well, the report said.
Notably, it was reported that the 30-year-old tribal woman delivered the baby near a drain at the hospital Friday after she was allegedly refused admission for want of required documents.
Her mother Gouramani Muduli, alleged her daughter went into labour pains at the hospital and visited the gynaecology ward seeking admission but the hospital staff declined to admit her.
“The medical staff refused to admit my daughter as we had not brought the prescription and required documents. My daughter delivered the child near the drain after she was refused admission,” she had alleged.
However, the authorities of SLNMCH dismissed the allegation that the woman was denied admission to the institution.
The chief district medical officer Lalit Mohan Rath trashed the charge.
