Berhampur: The Special Vigilance court awarded judicial custody to Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Ghumusar South Division under Bhanjanagar in Ganjam district Bijoy Ketan Acharya on the charge of amassing disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 3.22 crore.
A unit of anti-graft officials of Berhampur division conducted raids at five places including Acharya’s quarters, Bhanjanagar office, buildings at Patia and Saheed Nagar in Bhubaneswar and a building at Andarpur in Cuttack Saturday.
The Vigilance officials also opened his two bank lockers and found gold ornaments weighing more than one kilogram apart from hard cash of Rs 16.86 lakh.
During the search, the sleuths unearthed property worth over Rs 6.5 crore. However, Acharya failed to explain the source of Rs 3.22 crore following which he was arrested and later forwarded to the court Monday.
“Since he couldn’t give a satisfactory answer for the source of income of around Rs 3,22,85,000, he was arrested and forwarded to jail,” Berhampur Vigilance SP Mayadhar Swain said.
