Cuttack: A 3-year-old boy got new lease of life after doctors in SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack successful removed a whistle stuck in his respiratory tract following surgery.
The joy of the boy-Piyush, son of Gandeswar Munda in Keonjhar district knew no boundaries after the successful surgery. A team of doctors led by ENT Assistant Professor Dr Chinmay Sundaray successfully operated to remove a whistle on Tuesday.
The family thanked the doctors for giving the boy a new life.
According to reports, a whistle got stuck in Piyush’s respiratory tract while he was playing at his home. In fear of getting beaten, he did not inform about it to his parents. Soon after the boy developed complications and fell ill after which his parents admitted him to SCB. Even after conducting a series of medical tests to diagnose the ailment, the doctors had failed to know the exact reason for three days.
As the sound of the whistle was coming out while he was crying, Assistant Professor Dr Bipsa Singh of the Pediatric department of the hospital suspected that something has been stuck inside him. He later referred him to the ENT department for treatment.
The team of doctors comprising of Anesthesia department’s Associate Professor Dr Khageswar Rout and ENT department’s Dr Chinmay Sundaray conducted surgery and removed the whistle from the child’s respiratory tract.
Till the last report came in, the patient was in the ICU. The condition of the child is stable after treatment, medical authorities said.
