Dharmasala: Bhubaneswar emerged champions in the U-17 boys’ and the girls’ categories of the state level inter-school volleyball tournament, which concluded at the Kalpataru Das Stadium here Friday.
In the U-14 boys’ category Koraput took the top honours. The winning teams qualified for the national level inter-school volleyball tournament.
In the U-17 girls’ final Bhubaneswar defeated Nuapada by two games to nil while in the boys’ segment they thrashed Ganjam 3-0. Meanwhile Koraput registered a convincing 2-0 set victory over Malkangiri in the U-14 boys’ final category.
Medals galore
Orissa finished fourth with a tally of 69 medals including 13 gold, 18 silver and 39 bronze medals in the recently-concluded WAKO India Cadet National Kick-Boxing Championships in Raipur. Kirtirani Saho clinched three gold medals, while Manjit Singh grabbed two yellow metals for the state.
Team announced
Cuttack District Archery Association announced a 10-member team, Friday for the 19th State Archery Championships at Kandhamal, September 17-18. Laxmidhar Banara has been appointed as the coach and manager of the team. The team will leave for Kandhamal, Saturday.
Football Tennis tourney
Orissa State Football Tennis Association will organise the All India Football Tennis Championship at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, September 16-19. Thirty teams comprising 24 men and 10 women will participate in the tournament, which has a prize purse of Rs 5,00,000.
