Bhubaneswar: Orissa players put up a splendid show to emerge champions in four categories of the AITA series U-14 and U-16 tennis tournament, which concluded at the Kalinga Stadium here Friday. Kabir Hans and Ameek Kiran Batth clinched double crowns in their respective categories.
In the boys’ U-16 singles final top seed Kabir prevailed over sixth seed Deep Munim of Madhya Pradesh 6-2, 6-1. In doubles Kabir teamed up with statemate Pratush Mohapatra defeated the second-seeded duo of Amrutjay Mohanty and Abhishek Mohapatra of Orissa 6-3, 5-7, 10-7.
In the girls’ U-16 singles event top seed Ameek emerged champion beating seventh seed Paavani Paathak of Maharashtra 6-2, 6-2. In the doubles final, Ameek and Ananya Yadav of West Bengal were given walkover by Shatavisha Ghosh of West Bengal and Sai Rajesh Bhoyar of Maharashtra.
In the boys’ U-14 singles final third seed Deep defeated second-seeded Heerak Vora of Gujarat 6-3, 6-2 to win the title. In the U-14 girls’ final Paavanii won the title beating Sai Rajesh Bhoyar of Maharashtra.
