Cuttack: Bonaigarh Eagles registered an emphatic five-wicket win over Gadakhorda Lions in the opening match of the Navodaya Premier League (NPL) at the Nimpur sports ground here Monday.
Put into bat, Gadakhorda Lions scored 112 runs in 25 overs for the loss of nine wickets with PB Smriti Ranjan (27) emerging top scorer. Kamakhya Prasad and Chinmay Ranjan picked up three wickets each for Eagles.
In reply, Bonaigarh reached the target, scoring 115 for five in 20.5 overs. Man of the match Hemant Pradhan scored an unbeaten 41. Chandrakanth Patra took three wickets for Gadakhorda.
East Zone lose
East Zone lost to North Zone by 98 runs in JK Bose T20 cricket tournament, a part the 40th SJFI National Convention currently on at Thiruvananthapuram.
North rode on a brilliant unbeaten century by Amit Choudhary (105 n o) to score 201 for four wickets. In reply East could only manage 103 for the loss of nine wickets. Dipti Ranjan Samal(35) was the highest scorer for East Zone.

Top seed Manish Kumar, Shreyansh Subham Patnaik, Harshit Ranjan Sahoo, Priyansh Das, Pratyush Mohapatra and Sribatsa Das emerged leaders in the boys’ event with two points each after the completion of the second round of the State U-11 Open chess tournament, which was inaugurated Monday at the Ravenshaw University here.
In the girls’ segment P Sairupa, Diya Das, Ankita Sahoo, Sanchi Sahoo, Samrudhi Mangaraj, Swtalina Patnaik, Sruti Snehi, Amruta Mohanty, Sradha Suman Jena and Pravati Ray are sharing the joint top spot with two points each.
