Bhubaneswar, Jan 23: Eight players are leading the pack with three points each after the end of the third round of the 29th Bhubaneswar Open Chess Championship at the Orissa Secretariat Recreation Club here Saturday. They are Manas Parida, Manas Singh, Prabhat Ojha, Sahadev Khatei, Dhirendra Das, Prabodh Mishra, Sushant Garabadu and Ayush Parija.
They are closely followed by seven players with 2.5 points apiece. They are Kumar Ashok, Natabar Das, Bansidhar Bhoi, M Ranjan, Sumit Ojha, Aditya Patnaik, Indra Kunjar Biswal. There are 20 players sharing the third spot with two points each.
23 players lead
Twenty three players are sharing the top spot with three points each after the end of the third round of the Mina Patra Memorial All Orissa Open Chess Championship at Puri, Saturday. Among them are Vaibhav Mishra, Sanjeeban Nayak, Rajesh Kumar Nayak, Satyabrat Kar, Manoj Kumar Panigrahi, Rajesh Nayak, Rajat Kumar Sahoo, Rajendra Kumar Sahoo, Rabindra Kumar Ojha, Subhasis Barik, Soumya Ranjan Das, Smaraki Mohanty and Basant Kumar Das. There will be nine rounds played in the event.
Player, officials selected
Mandakini Majhi became the first player from the state to be selected to the Indian women’s kho-kho team for the South Asian Games to be played at Guwahati, February 5-12.
Orissa Cycling Association secretary Bijay Kumar Rout and Orissa Kho-Kho Association secretary Pradyumna Mishra have also been appointed as the technical officials for the mega event.
