Ekamra College emerge champs

Bhubaneswar: Ekamra College emerged champions of the Inter-College cricket tournament after scripting an 18-run win over Debaray College in the final at Jayadev College Ground here, Thursday.

Opting to bat, Ekamra found themselves in trouble at 23 for four. However, skipper Rakesh Kumar Barik (63 n o) and Rakesh Kumar Behera (60) struck wonderful half centuries to help Ekamra College reach 173 for seven in the allotted 30 overs. In the process, the duo added 91 runs for the fifth wicket.

In reply, Debaray College were dismissed for 155 runs. Ashok Mallick (39) and D Sahoo (35) batted well for them. Bhawani Prasad Das (4 wickets) and Sourav Panigrahi (2 wickets) bowled well for the champions.

Top teams win

Orissa Police, AOC Secunderabad and South East Railway (SER) won their respective matches of the XIIth Patia Cup All India A Grade Kabaddi tournament at Patia here, Thursday. Orissa Police defeated Jajpur 41-28 while AOC thrashed Kuakhia 25-6 and SER registered a 30-17 win over Bhubaneswar.

Orissa finish runners-up

Orissa finished runners-up in the 63rd National School U-17 Girls’ Football Championships, organised by Orissa State School Sports Association and district education department, after going down by a solitary goal to Haryana at the Angul Stadium, Thursday. Haryana struck the winner six minutes from time to seal a dramatic win.

Team announced

Football Association of Orissa (FAO) announced a 20-member team Thursday for the National Junior Boys’ Football Championships for the Dr BC Roy Trophy, to be played at Hoshiarpur in Punjab, December 5-15.

The team will leave for the venue Friday. Orissa will face Goa in their campaign opener, December 6 before facing Delhi and Kerala December 6 and 8 respectively.
