Bhubaneswar: A special squad of Commissionerate police Saturday busted a fake tobacco manufacturing unit at Mahavir Bazaar in Jharpada here.
The police arrested the owners of the factory, Akshaya Behara and his two sons, who were allegedly replicating popular chewing tobacco brands like Gopal Zarda.
Following a tip-off, the sleuths of the squad led by ACP Sanjib Satpathy with the help of Laxmisagar police conducted the raid. They also seized raw materials and packaging machinery worth lakhs of rupees during the surprise inspection. The arrested have been charged with cheating and trade mark
infringement.
The police registered a case under Sections 418, 420, 482, 272, 273, 120(B) and 34 of IPC and 103,104 of the Trademarks Act.
