Janhapank (Boudh): In a bizarre incident, a family had to suffer for their daughter’s love affair with a boy for which they were driven out of the village by co-villagers Wednesday night. The incident happened at Chandrapur village under Telibandh panchayat in Boudh district.
Jaya Karn’s family comprised his wife and two daughters Jharana and Ruhi (name changed). The family eked out a living by doing odd jobs while their daughters attended school. Jharana, the youngest daughter, was supposed to write her HSC board examination.
Jharana was in a secret relationship with a youth identified as Yudhishthir Dehuri of Balakira village under Talasarada panchayat. The two met each other secretly without the knowledge of their parents. On the fateful night, Dehuri along with a friend reached Jharana’s village to meet her.
Meanwhile, some locals spotted the couple gossiping and caught hold of them. The locals thrashed Dehuri black and blue and held him captive inside a house. Later, they called a meeting where they expressed their views that the village got bad names due to the girl’s love affair. They claimed that it was a matter of shame for the village.
Finally, they decided to drive the girl’s family out of the village. Availing no option, the family left the village in the middle of the night. Karn along with his wife and two daughters sought shelter at a relative’s house and later set off for a new destination unknown to the villagers early Thursday morning.
Meanwhile, some good neighbours tried to settle the matter with the boy’s parents. They planned to get the girl married to Dehuri but to no avail as his parents did not turn up. The incident became the talk of the village although no police complaint was lodged in this connection.
Some neighbours expressed concern for the girl as she was supposed to write her board examination. PNN
