Bhubaneswar: In yet another case of police laxity, an FIR went missing from the records, related to the assault of a girl during the zero night celebrations here at Bayababa Basti under Sahid Nagar police limits.
Expressing dismay over police indifference, the complainant has alleged that even after running to the police station several times, policemen showed no interest in addressing her grievance and bringing the accused within the purview of investigation.
Moreover, the cops informed the girl that the complaint has gone missing from the police station. With no option left, the girl again wrote a fresh complaint here Thursday regarding the incident. According to the FIR, the incident occurred in the last hours of December 31 when a group of individuals was feasting during the zero night celebrations, near the complainant’s house at Bayababa Basti. One youth, a resident of the same area, started passing lewd comments against the girl who was talking over phone in the verandah of her house. When the girl objected, the youth allegedly abused her verbally and attempted to outrage her modesty.
The complaint further stated that the man did not even spare her father and thrashed him mercilessly, when the latter tried to stop him. Following this, the girl lodged a complaint with the Sahid Nagar police the next morning.
Later, when the girl and her family members approached the police about the case proceedings, police personnel informed them that they could not find the FIR filed earlier, and they had asked her to submit another plaint in this regard. Sahid Nagar inspector-in-charge Kishore Mund denied any knowledge about such allegations and avoided to respond on the matter.
