Baripada: Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) chief Shibu Soren attended Wednesday a mega-constituency level convention of the party at Bhatchhatar in Morada block in Mayurbhanj district.
Here are some amusing incidents:
No talk time
The leaders sharing the dais with Shibu were asked not to go for lengthy speeches. Kalinga Keshari Jena, who is said to have taken pains to organise the convention and an aspirant from the Morada constituency for the Parliament, cut short his speech to three minutes only. However, state president Mahesh Hembram delivered a 15-minute long speech and courted opposition from Jena’s followers.
State president sidelined
Ahead of the convention, banners and posters were put up at different locations in Morada constituency. While the photos of Soren, JMM leader Hemant Soren, state woman leader Anjani Soren and state general secretary Kalinga Jena were prominent and big, the picture of one of the state president, Mahesh Hembram found a non-descript place in posters and banners. The workers were heard saying that the size of photo of a leader is largely dependent on his/her clout.
Daughter hails Shibu
Women wing leader Anjani, daughter of Shibu was all praise for her dad. Addressing the huge gathering, she announced that she would be an MP candidate from Mayurbhanj in the forthcoming Lok sabha polls. She added she would follow her father’s footsteps and leave no stone unturned while working for tribals.
Nariabhai
District president Fagu Hansda’s speech, interspersed with humour, had the audience in splits. When he called PM Narendra Modi as ‘Nariabhai’ and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik as ‘Naveenbhai’, the gathering could not hide their glee.
Love for selfie
The young aspiring leaders of the party could not contain their desire for selfies. They were seen just clicking away selfies with party seniors. It was also noticed that the youth leaders of Baripada were given more importance than their counterparts in Morada. This caused resentment among local leaders.
