Bhubaneswar: The Meteorological Centre Friday forecasted moderate fog along with showers of rain to occur in a few parts of the state in the next 24 hours. The phenomenon will be a result of a system developing over the Bay of Bengal.
Formation of a low-pressure area over southeast Bay of Bengal and generation of moderate showers for southern parts of the state was earlier forecasted by the Met. However, the low-pressure area over the sea was found to have weakened just after its formation Friday.
Met officials Friday traced a trough line over southeast Bay of Bengal and its neighbourhood and said it persisted with an upper-air cyclonic circulation. The existing trough may bring about moisture and clouds that could trigger moderate rain and fog in the state, said the experts.
The rain, however, will be confined to one or two places of coastal Orissa which, may also witness shallow fog in the wee hours of the next two to three days. Meanwhile, interior parts of the state will continue to witness dry weather with comparatively cooler nights. Such mixed weather will continue till December 2.
Met officials once again recorded the lowest temperature of 9.5 degree Celsius at Phulabani in the past 24 hours. Koraput remained the second coldest in the state with 13.2 degree Celsius. Phulabani has been the coldest place in the state for the past one week.
The meteorologists further predicted cloudy skies for the capital city and its adjoining areas with fog to occur in the early hours of Saturday. The maximum and minimum temperatures may remain around 31 and 19 degrees Celsius over the city respectively.
