Bhubaneswar: Three footballers belonging to the slum areas of the capital city have been selected for the upcoming Youth I-League Football Championships which will be played next month. They are Chandan Nayak, Sunil Sorene and Ranjan Sorene who will represent the Bhaichung Bhutia Football School in the tournament.
This is the first instance when three footballers from the state have got the chance to play in the Youth I-League. The three who train at the Kalinga Football Academy here are students of the Capital High School.
All of them are happy after getting the chance to play in a tournament which gives them a chance to showcase their skills. “We will try our best to perform to the best of our ability and make the state proud,” they said in unison.
Jaydev Mohapatra, who has coached Chandan, Sunil and Ranjan is also happy that is wards have got the chance to perform on a national platform. The kids are talented. The tournament will be a very good exposure for them,” he stated.
Capital High School head mistress Sonamika Rai congratulated the trio for their selection and hailed their passion for the game and hard work. “We are very happy and proud that three students of our school are going to play in the prestigious AIFF event. What makes it more special is that they are the first players to have been selected from Orissa,” she stated.
