Bhubaneswar, Dec 10:The final of this year’s Annual Dog Show organised by Orissa Kennel Club at the SOA University here, concluded Sunday. More than 300 dogs of more than 35 breeds competed for the 54th and 55th all breeds Championship. German Shepherd Pina owned by Sehra Muthu Kumar won the 54th Championship and the second runners-up went to Beagle Posto owned by Sudip Kundu.
The Dachshund named Jessica owned by Pallab Shah won the 55th Championship. The dog show was judged by Mario Magsaysay of the Philippines and Nikolina Davidovska of Bulgaria. The breeds on show at the competition included the Whippet, Chow Chow, St Bernard, American Cocker Spaniel, Afghan Hound, Tibetan Mastiff, Alaskan Malamute, Husky, Boxer, and Pug. This apart, there were dogs of more commonly seen breeds such as Labrador Retriever, Golden Retriever, German Shepherd, Great Dane, Lhasa Apso, Harlequin Great Dane, Boxer, Shih Tzu, and Miniature Pinscher.
The Siberian Husky and Long-haired Dachshund were also exciting entries. The Kerry Blue Terrier was a refreshing addition to the show and was displayed by Prasanjeet Chatterjee from Kolkata. Small dogs such as the Chihuahua (Chiwawa), Miniature Pinscher, Long-haired Dachshund and Pomeranian reigned in the speed and looks department.
Rimi Dhawan of New Delhi, who had brought two Chihuahua to the show said that it was her first time and she was excited to be participating. Biswajit Pati of Rourkela brought his Chow Chow to the all breed Competition. He has been coming to the show for the past five years and each year brought a different breed with him. The event received an international touch with a Golden Retriever brought by a Russian participant. She said she was impressed by the competition and will come return the next year. Last year a Great Dane, Dane Hills Star Man, won the 52nd Championship and Doberman, Excalibur, won the 53rd Championship.
