Cuttack: Girls outperformed boys in the High School Certificate (HSC) examinations, results of which were announced by the board of secondary education (BSE) here Wednesday.
School and mass education minister Debi Prasad Mishra and department secretary Ranjana Chopra were present at the BSE office in Cuttack during the announcement of results. The results were available on websites from 10am.
This year, the pass percentage stood at 83.82 per cent in Oriya medium schools while it is 88.91 per cent in madhyama. While the pass percentage of boys in the regular category stood at 85.03 per cent, it is 88.58 per cent in case of girls, Mishra said.
Deogarh district has registered the highest pass percentage at 95.72 while Sambalpur recorded lowest pass percentage of 70.06 percent. About 715 high schools in the state have recorded 100 per cent results while 21 schools have zero results. The pass percentage has increased in comparison to previous years.
Sources said 5,86,503 Class X and 4,896 madhyama students had appeared for the matriculation examinations at 2,884 examination centres across the state from February 22 to March 4 this year. Evaluation of the answer-sheets was held from March 11 to March 22 at 67 centres.
As many as 4,89,722 students cleared the examinations. While 1,733 students secured A1, 18,863 got A2, 53,070 got B1, 92,722 got B2, 1,19,924 got C, 1,28,764 got D and 74,646 candidates got E grade. While the pass percentage was 80.93 per cent last year, it is 83.72 per cent this year.
In madhyama category, among 4,841 passed students, 35 got A2 grade, 755 B1 grade, 1,404 B2 grade, 1,184 C grade, 649 D grade, 22 E grade, 537 F grade and 255 students passed via compartmental.
In the regular category, of the 7,023 candidates who appeared for correspondent examinations, 6,968 students have passed the examinations with five candidates getting A1 grade, 20 getting A2 grade, 93 B1 grade, 355 B2 grade, 932 C grade, 1,729 D grade, 1,141 E grade and 2,702 got F grade.
Similarly, in the ex-regular category, 25,255 candidates had appeared for the examination among which 25,152 have cleared the examination.
