Kendrapara: The same sex marriage between two girls here in this district, the first of its kind in Odisha, took another strange twist with a local court sending the couple to a short stay home, Tuesday.
The couple—Sabitri Parida and Monalisa Nayak—were produced in the court of the sub-divisional judicial magistrate (SDJM) here. Subsequently, the police recorded their statement under Section 164. The court later sent them to the short stay home.
The move came a day after the couple threatened to commit suicide if attempts were made to separate the two. They had approached the court for help after the father of one of the girls lodged a police complaint alleging that his daughter had been forced into the marriage. Notably, Sabitri, a resident of Mahakalpada, and Monalisa of Pattamundai tied the nuptial knot Saturday.
According to reports, both girls have been in a relationship since their school days. With the passage of time, they decided to get married. Both are now working for the same company. They had tied the nuptial knot in the presence of notary Ashutosh Mohanty.
