Task force set to inspect important infrastructure projects
Bhubaneswar: The state government Friday directed the chief engineer (Roads) to blacklist Suraj Enterprises, a special class contractor firm for acquiring the work by submitting false and fabricated documents.
The government has decided to act on the allegations against Suraj Enterprises’ proprietor Rajendra Prasad Agarwal and son Banti Agarwal of submitting fake term deposit receipts (TDRs) to bag government contracts.
Works secretary NK Pradhan has directed the chief engineer, roads, to blacklist the agency under Rule-4 of Orissa Public Works Department (OPWD) Contractor’s Registration Rules 1967.
The state government has ‘‘approved blacklisting of M/s Suraj Enterprises, special class contractor on the ground of submission of false/fabricated /forged documents for consideration of a tender,” Pradhan said in his letter.
It was alleged the father-son duo had forged papers for the works undertaken in Bolangir, Kalahandi and Nuapada districts. The public works department (PWD) had detected fraud in tenders procured by Suraj Enterprises by submitting fake TDRs in Kalahandi district. The government has also decided to take appropriate legal action against the agency.
The government had asked the chief engineer recently to blacklist M/s Panda Infra Projects (India) Pvt Ltd for violating important conditions of contract, leading to injuries and loss of life. This step was taken aftermath of the collapse of a slab of Road over Bridge (RoB) near Bomikhal.
Meanwhile, the works department has formed a task force to prevent any mishap at under-construction infrastructure projects like roads and bridges.
The task force comprising chief engineer (quality control), chief engineer (design) and chief engineer (e-procurement) was formed to conduct surprise inspection of important infrastructure projects to assess quality parameters and stage pass register. The panel will submit its report to the government in every week.
