Bhubaneswar : A long year of waiting finally came to end Monday with the Orissa government finally announcing that hockey player Dipsan Tirkey will get a cash award of Rs 8,00,000 for his outstanding performances in the Junior World Cup hockey tournament played last year in Lucknow. India emerged champion in the tournament beating Belgium 2-1 in the final which was played December 18. Dipsan had played his part in the final also.
The award will be presented to the hockey player during the Biju Patnaik sports awards ceremony here in the city August 29.
Apart from Dipsan, promising swimmer G Narahari will also receive a cash incentive of Rs 3,00,000 for crossing the English Channel.
According to the state sports department, the Biju Patnaik Bravery Award 2016 will be conferred on Harichanda Hial and Mohan Garada, while state award for social service 2016 will be conferred on Dinesh Kumar Mallick at a specially organised function on the same day.
