Bhubaneswar: Waterlogging and inundation of roads have thrown normal life out of gear at several parts of the state.
While most parts of the state including, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Puri witnessed incessant rainfall for the last 24 hours, Cuttack and Puri district administrations announced that all schools and colleges in the city will be closed Thursday.
The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has deployed 13 teams in 67 wards. As many as 40 engineers have also been roped in to tackle the situation. A 24-hour control room (toll free number- 0674 2432281) and an operation centre (toll-free number- 1800 345006) have been set up to meet any eventuality.
Meanwhile, the regional meteorological centre has issued a heavy rainfall and thunderstorm alert for 17 districts, especially in the northern and southern parts of the state Thursday.
The districts are Puri, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Bolangir, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Khurda, Nayagarh, Keonjhar, Angul, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Mayurbhanj and Dhenkanal.
