Bhubaneswar, August 25: Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Thursday said that heavy rainfall is likely to occur in coastal and southern areas of the state from Friday.
“The upper air cyclonic circulation over west central Bay of Bengal off Andhra Pradesh coast between 1.5 and 5.8 km above mean sea levels persists. Under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to develop over west central Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood during next 24 hours,” IMD said in a bulletin.
“The present weather condition indicated that a low pressure is likely to be formed over Bay of Bengal Friday. Under its influence heavy rainfall will occur in coastal areas and south Orissa for three to four days,” director of Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre Sarat Chandra Sahu said.
Between 8.30 am to 5.30 pm Thursday, 12 mm rainfall was recorded at Sundergarh, 11 mm at Sonepur and 5 mm each at Cuttack and Chandbali.
