High Court stay on eviction of 19 families

Cuttack: The Orissa High Court Friday imposed an interim stay on the eviction of 19 families of Naharakanta Bhoisahi near Bhubaneswar for the expansion of National Highway 16.
A division bench of justice S C Parija and Debabrata Das also sought replies from the state government and other parties to the case.
Altogether 19 families have been residing at Naharkanta Bhoisahi for last several years. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) had served eviction notices on these families a couple of months ago.
The state government had agreed to rehabilitate the families of Bhoisahi on a piece of land at Rudrapur mouza in Khurda district. However, no step was taken on their rehabilitation.
The aggrieved families had raised the issue with the state government and the NHAI but to no avail.
Subsequently, the families had challenged the evection notice in the HC.
