Post news network, Bhubaneswar, Feb 4: The High School Certificate (HSC) examinations are slated to start February 28 and George Sabar is worried about his performance, just like most students. However, unlike other students, George has a little more cause for worry.
George, a backward-class student of Municipal Corporation Government High School, Laxmi Sagar, was a bright student and was even recently felicitated by the school administration for his academic performance.
However, fate dealt him a cruel hand a few months ago. George was afflicted with malaria, following which his memory was affected. Now, George feels helpless and does not have much hope of doing well.
“Few months ago, I contracted malaria. Initially, I thought it is a normal case of fever and I would get well in a few days. However, the high fever persisted and I was diagnosed with malaria,” said George.
“Only later did I realize that the infection had affected my brain. I started feeling a strange kind of pain in my head. I also noticed that my memory power had declined. Now I find it difficult to concentrate. I don’t know how to cope with this,” he said.
George’s teachers have only good things to say about him. “He has always been a good student. He had a sharp memory. We hope he can cope with the situation and excel in life,” said his class teacher, Nilima Satapathy.
George’s father, Jhon Sabar, was heartbroken because of the suffering his son was going through. “I have great expectations from my son. I always encouraged him to excel in studies. However, fate has dealt a bad blow. Still I believe that my son will score well in the final examinations,” he said.
