Bhubaneswar, April 25: The women’s team of Hockey Orissa pipped mighty Jharkhand 1-0 after 10 years, in a Pool-B game of Hockey India Senior Women’s National Championships at Bangalore, Monday.
After goalless first three quarters, Elin Lakra (49th) scored the all important goal of the game. In spite of their best efforts Jharkhand could not restore parity as the Orissa defenders stood firm.
Orissa will meet Madhya Pradesh Tuesday.
Prashant triumphs
Prashant Katiyar of Uttar Pradesh (8.5) emerged champion of the Triple C All India Fide Rating Chess Tournament (below 1800) at Puri, Sunday.
J Charles sealed the second spot with eight points in his kitty. He was followed by Delhi boy Aryan Y Sai Kiran of Andhra Pradesh, M Farhaan of Pondicherry and Avijit Ghosh of West Bengal in joint third position with 7.5 points each.
Orissa players Sanjeeban Nayak, Srinibas Mishra and Ankush Sahu finished off their campaign in joint fifth position along with 13 others on 6.5 points each.
Five selected
Five players from Orissa have been selected in the Indian women’s hockey team for a tournament in England, May 1-10. They are Deep Grace Ekka, Lilima Minz, Sunita Lakra, Namita Toppo and Poonam Barla.
TT camp
The Young Generation Table Tennis Association (YGTTA) with the help of Orissa State Table Tennis Association (OSTTA), will organise a summer coaching camp at the Sachin Tendulkar Indoor Hall, Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, starting May 2. The camp will continue till the third week of June. National coach Raj S Subramaniam and NIS-trained TT coach Shahid Hussain along with some senior state players will conduct the sessions.
